Reporting an accessibility problem

These reports matter more than any other kind, and they are the easiest to describe badly, so here is what actually helps:

  • Your screen reader and version, and your browser or the desktop build.
  • Which scene or mode you were in — Current Conditions, Map Navigation, Settings, and so on.
  • What was announced, as close to word-for-word as you can manage.
  • What you expected instead. This one gets left out most often and is usually the important part.

“It said the temperature twice and never said the wind” is a perfect bug report. You do not need to know why it happened.

Before you write

A few things that are known rather than broken:

  • No music, no background art, plain fonts. The 1.3 GB media library is not installed. This is expected — see Downloads. Narration through your screen reader is unaffected.
  • Your local NOAA Weather Radio call sign isn't listed. The weatherUSA network carries contributor-run feeds, not every NWS transmitter. Pick the nearest metro that is on it.
  • Locations outside the United States don't work. The app is built on the National Weather Service API and there is no non-US coverage.
  • Some themes look unfinished. Several are, and the themes page says which. Their narration is complete regardless.

One thing worth repeating

Accessible Weather Center is not an official warning source. In severe weather, follow the National Weather Service, NOAA Weather Radio, and your local emergency management agency.
